MOTS-c

Also known as: mitochondrial-derived peptide, MOTS-c acetate, Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c

Classification

Peptide

Regulatory Status

not-established

Overview

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA (within the 12S rRNA region) that acts via AMPK-dependent signaling; in mice it regulates skeletal-muscle metabolism and nuclear genes related to metabolism and proteostasis, and endogenous MOTS-c is exercise-inducible, rising in circulation during and after acute exercise in humans.

Evidence and limitations

Human/preclinical evidence breakdown is not available in this record.
